On January 26 2023, the Southern West Virginia Region SCCA announced it’s Solo schedule for 2023 on their Facebook group. Absent from the schedule were any events at the Grand Central Mall located in Vienna, WV. The other club site is West Virginia University-Parkersburg, which can only be used when students and staff are off for the summer. The length of the schedule has been impacted as a result.
Losing autocross sites is a problem that has been affecting many clubs and regions. While not having the specific answer for the reasoning behind the mall site, a lot of speculation can revolve around just how many of these sites are disappearing due to increasing difficulty with insurance conflict. While a lot of regions are on the lookout for a primary site still, Southern WV Region is still grateful for it’s current site and past ones as well.
