Top up oils
We also stock “top-up oils” in various brands and weights and try to offer them at reduced prices. These are intended to give you something to add if you’re low, because even if it’s not what you normally run, it’s better than being low!
Typically these will be oils whose manufacture dates are getting a little old. Some of the additive package may be beginning to fall out of solution in them. This means things like their anti-wear or anti-foaming properties may be in a reduced state.
If your engine is likely to spend more than a couple seconds at wide open throttle, it’s recommended to go with a newer quart of oil. If…
– it’s your street car and you’re going to be doing an oil change soon anyway, then these are probably ok.
– it’s a low strain engine in an autocross environment, and the engine’s in good health otherwise, these will probably be ok on shorter or more technical courses.
– you need cheap oil to oil bolts before torquing, to oil o-rings on filters, etc, these are perfect.
Open track use is not recommended. High power engine use is not recommended. If you wouldn’t throw cheap parts store / gas station brand oil in it, skip these. Use these at your own discretion!
