A couple shots from the Ohio Valley Region SCCA autocross on Sunday at Fortress Obetz. There's always interesting stuff to catch. I had a little more difficulty with the fence there. My phone loved focusing on the bars as soon as one of them hinted at entering the frame, and panning/tilt was decently obstructed. I grabbed what I could though. The course was really fast. I heard some talking about being in the 21.xxx range. I believe I heard 6 runs. Rain was a possibility, but it dried up quickly in the morning and the day ended up being really nice. The wind picked up a bit later on. The number of Novices was crazy! Corvettes, Mustangs, and Miatas… Last round of pictures from the Autointerests Pitt Race event from May. I managed to run off long enough to catch pictures of one run group on Saturday. There was a fair number of Corvette generations present, I didn't get a picture, but Matan counts as the C5. Mustangs were in the same boat with everything from Foxbodies to current gen. I didn't catch a new edge. I dunno if there was one there. Dale was probably around with one of his too. Rizvi's old NA is still turning laps, and despite all they hate from the community, NCs are plenty quick. I like quick. All of the BMW, Toyota, Honda, and Porsche power! I caught a few phone pictures of one of the run groups with Autointerests closing in on a month ago now at Pitt Race. It was pretty cool to see a lot of BMW lineage represented there! I can't believe it's been almost a month already. The passage of time is nuts. I've gotten a couple big shipments in to make available in the time since, and working on stuff now for the next round of events coming up. I'm honestly kinda running out of stuff to post while I'm waiting for new inventory to arrive and I don't have any more track visits planned til a little later this month, but here, have some clamps. These are important though, because they're not something you get to just walk into a parts store and get. I never had good luck with finding T-bolt clamps, so I stock @vibrant_performance ones. The ones I have on hand are for couplers ranging from IDs of 2"-4" (the adjustment ranges given on the packaging are for OD), which should cover most applications. These things really don't have a lot of adjustment range, which is a problem you inherently run into when you're looking for a better sealing solution. They say it's made out of 300 series stainless on the back. I'm guessing 318 since it's pretty readily attainable, but 318 is also highly corrosion resistant, so that's a nice perk of these. Vibrant's got a list of pretty cool stuff, a lot of it fabrication related. I'm not set up to weld again yet, but I sure look forward to using more of their catalog when I am. At PRI last year, they spoke a lot about their new HD clamp system. It was pretty cool how it was forgiving for a little misalignment. The ends have to be welded onto a pipe though, so not something I can make use of just yet. Someone smarter than me might have used this opportunity to be quiet for a bit and slow down posts to get a little boost for not having posted in a while when they return. Posts kinda feel like they've been tanking lately anyway. I appreciate the support of you guys that are here. Back to the product posting! For the driver, we stock a couple of different balaclavas or head socks, both of which meet SFI standards. Currently we have a single layer Crow Enterprizes head sock we stock for a budget option. While you can't put a price on safety, it usually pairs well with autocross or entry level drag racing, and is a good way to minimize sweat getting into your helmet padding and not only causing odor, but also breaking down the padding. We also stock @moleculesports Refresh to address odor, but you can't do much to help padding degradation short of replacing the helmet. We also have a @pyrotect 2 layer balaclava in stock. This balaclava is priced a little more than the Crow, but it pays off from a comfort standpoint and more importantly, buying you extra seconds in case it gets used for it's intended purpose. Both are single eye port, and both are also available for special order in black. Although the white is more likely to show staining, I stock white ones for the better heat rejection. Any help we can get in that regard outweighs a head sock you're going to put under a helmet in my opinion. We've also had a set of Crow's mid-top shoes pass through the shop. They're also on the budget end of pricing, and are available in black, red, and blue with US sizing. They are surprisingly similar to @racequip 's shoes at the similar price point. I would be inclined to believe they're both sourcing these from the same manufacturer, with a few differences in options. The exterior differences between the two are easy to notice. Crow opts for a more plain appearance panel where the shoe is bolstered for heel/toe wear, and the sole I don't think has quite as much grip. The interior is definitely much more comfort oriented than the Racequips though. Both are good shoes and last well. I'm back to a little more carryover from WRL @ Mid-Ohio a couple weeks ago. It was definitely really cool to be able to watch how some of these teams do what they do. I still haven't been able to get myself to any kind of endurance racing yet, but that's the dream. To be able to turn laps, hours at a time. Keeping the car going and doing it quickly takes prep and the right equipment. Quickly addressing any issues make both of those doubly important. I was able to get a little more looking after the Miata done on Friday and finish knocking out a lot of the list I had for just regular upkeep. Got brake fluid freshened up and greased caliper slides, and boy did they need it. I also cleaned up a bunch of wheel flanges, because I always forget to do that. I hate it, but I know this car's duties for the next little bit and it just has parts store DOT3 in it now. :/ I don't know if / when this may ever become a video, but I've received some questions about swapping brake fluid. Since it's very regular maintenance on anything that gets tracked, and should be decently regular maintenance on road cars that most people skip… 👀… I did record that part, and talked a bit about cleaning hub flanges on the wheels in the process. This car was overdue, and I ended up finding a torn piston dust boot on the RR caliper while I was greasing slides, which were definitely due for some freshening up since this car isn't tracked anymore and doesn't go through pads near as often. I got out of the office long enough to spend a few hours hanging around for the WRL event at Mid-Ohio on Saturday. I spent longer than I had originally planned, and I still spent more time on the road driving to and from than at the track. 😂 Man is it worth it though! Pictures and the stream were both kinda afterthoughts. I went up to talk with one of the teams that at this point is looking promising for bringing in more parts. Hopefully I'll get to show you some of those soon! I enjoyed my time there. This is really my kind of racing. I'm always excited to poke around and get some more ideas for cool car nerd stuff.
